  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula or wooden spoon.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look set.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chewy cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. You can substitute nuts with dried fruit or omit them entirely.
