Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in the microwave or a saucepan and let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Whisk until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time and then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips. Press dough evenly into the pan and sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top if desired.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden and a toothpick in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Allow to cool completely before lifting out of the pan using parchment. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Ensure not to overmix the dough to keep the bars chewy. Using room temperature eggs helps in better mixing. Always line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
