strainer
Airtight container
Measuring cups
spoon
Ingredients
2
cup
water
2
cup
granulated sugar
2
tbsp
loose-leaf black tea
(or 4 black tea bags)
1
tsp
ground cinnamon
1
tsp
ground cardamom
1/2
tsp
ground ginger
1/2
tsp
ground cloves
1/2
tsp
ground nutmeg
1/2
tsp
ground allspice
1
tsp
vanilla extract
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely to create a simple syrup base.
Add the loose-leaf black tea or tea bags to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Stir in ground cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice, ensuring all spices are well mixed into the syrup.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
Remove the saucepan from heat and discard the tea bags or strain the syrup to remove loose tea leaves and any spice sediment.
Stir in the vanilla extract for added depth of flavor.
Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container or bottle for storage.
Use 2-3 tablespoons of the chai syrup per serving to craft your favorite chai latte or tea by mixing with hot milk or water.
Notes
Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Adjust the spice levels to suit your taste.
