- Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare two 9-inch cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and espresso powder until well combined.
- Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture and mix on medium speed. Gradually incorporate boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Distribute the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove cakes from the oven and let cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once completely cooled, frost the cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.
